What do you do about Error 721?

To be a computer user, you at times have to be a bit like Sherlock Holmes or Nero Wolfe. When you receive an error message, you have to do some investigating to figure out exactly what it means. This is certainly the case with Error 721, which often is accompanied with text reading: "The remote computer is not responding."

What does this mean? In some cases, it can occur when trying to get a dial-up connection with your modem and the device driver is not compatible with your operating system. The easiest way to solve this problem is to update the driver. Vendors release new drivers often - sometimes more than once a year - and try to keep up with the latest operating systems. The drivers allow your hardware to communicate with the software and operating system.

In most situations, an Error 721 message appears when you cannot make a virtual private network (VPN) connection to the corporate network using a Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PTTP) client. PTTP uses what is known as Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) for certain data. The GRE is used to create the virtual private network between the server and the client(s). Sometimes firewalls are not configured to allow GRE protocol traffic.

Check to make sure:

  1. The firewall permits the GRE protocol 47
  2. TCP (Transmission Protocol Control) traffic on port 1723 is allowed

Thank you so much for your assistance.

I am pleased to report that everything is now resolved.

Furthermore, Drivercure has transformed my PCs' performance.

I would just like to compliment your organization. I have used Privacy for several years and it is great, always work, works correctly, and never screws up my system. I purchased Reg Cure after having numerous bad experiences with other similar products. It does what it says, it does it very well, and it also does not screw up my computer. With the great quality I am experiencing, I recently purchased Driver cure, and it too works flawlessly, not like so many others I have tried. I plan to check with Pareto everytime before I look at other products. Thanks for the fantastic products, I've never found such usable products anywhere in my 20 years on the internet.

Keep up the great work.
